11th September, CUKBDC co-hosted the “China (Wuhan) – UK Fintech Business Cooperation Dialogue”, along with Wuhan Municipal Local Financial Supervision and Administration Bureau and CCPIT (China Council for the Promotion of International Trade) Wuhan. About 60 persons attended the dialogue, including representatives of financial policy-makers, institutions, associations and companies in Wuhan.
"Wuhan has a large number of financial institutions with a complete range of categories." Fan Yilin, director of the coordination department of the Wuhan Local Financial Administration Bureau, introduced that as of the end of June 2024, Wuhan has 274 headquartered financial institutions, 2,574 outlets, and more than 100,000 financial practitioners. "China Credit Information Service, which is present at the meeting today, is the largest private enterprise credit service agency in the country, and China Carbon Registration is the national carbon emission rights registration, trading and settlement center."
"We support foreign investment in China." Li Xinlin, director of the Foreign Investment Department of the Hubei Regulatory Bureau of the State Financial Regulatory Administration, said that the bureau supports excellent and distinctive institutions to invest and start businesses in Hubei, supports local governments to accurately carry out relevant work on the entry and investment of foreign banks, and will further strengthen communication and exchanges with foreign capital developing in China.
At the scene, Wuchang District and Jianghan District also made special presentations on "building a carbon finance cluster" and "building a financial technology cluster". The 12 members of the British Fintech delegation introduced the business situation and professional advantages of their companies and institutions in turn, and expressed their hope to cooperate with Wuhan in the fields of payment systems, wealth management, blockchain, financial security and artificial intelligence.
John emphasised UK companies are interested in working with Wuhan across a wide range of sectors including fintech.
Mr Sheng Yuechun, deputy secretary of the municipal party committee and mayor, met with the delegation led by John McLean OBE.
Sheng Yuechun welcomed the delegation of British fintech entrepreneurs. He said that Wuhan is a national central city under construction, a core city of the Yangtze River Economic Belt, and a nationally influential science and technology innovation centre, with multiple advantages and a good development trend. Wuhan and the UK have a good foundation for exchanges and cooperation and broad prospects. We hope to take this delegation's visit as an opportunity to jointly promote extensive exchanges and cooperation in the fields of economic and trade investment, business exchanges, scientific and technological innovation, education and culture, achieve win-win development, and benefit the people of both places. The fintech delegation visited Transn, a leading AI language service platform and discussed the potential cooperation opportunities. The delegates had a good discussion with Transn regarding how AI, blockchain and large model technology have helped the company grow and excel.
The fintech delegation visited the Wuhan Metropolitan Area Capital Market Service Base, formally launched 4th September 2024. This new organisation will help nurture the pre-public-listing companies in Wuhan and neighbouring cities, with a focus of providing comprehensive financial services for science and technology innovation.
The delegation also had a roundtable discussion with the management committee of the East Lake Hi-Tech Development Zone, exploring potential business opportunities with more than 50,000 companies similar to the size of Transn.
12th September, the delegation visited the Dongxihu District and had a roundtable discussion with local Federation of Industry and Commerce, Hubei Enterprise Listing Development Promotion Association, and also Chamber of Commerce of Young Entrepreneurs, which represent more than 1,000 local companies in the region. Arvind Norris, Trade and Investment Consul, British Consulate General Wuhan, also joined the discussion.
In Wuhan, the delegates had the opportunity to take driverless taxi “Robot Go”, as Wuhan is the country’s largest area for trial operation for driverless taxis.
