On 19th March 2025 CUKBDC signs an MOU as a Co-founder of China’s International Chamber of Commerce Alliance for the New International Land-Sea Trade Corridor (‘LSTC’) with China International Chamber of Commerce and Industry (‘CCPIT’)

As part of the Rt Honourable Alastair King’s Lord Mayor’s visit to China, John McLean OBE, Chair of CUKBDC signed the MOU on 19th July in Beijing to mark the next step in the creation and development of the Alliance. In signing the MOU, he said:
The New International Land-Sea Trade Corridor spans multiple provinces in China and connects to numerous countries globally, particularly in Southeast Asia and regions covered by the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP).

The LSTC was established with the approval of the State Council of China on November 26, 2024, jointly initiated by the China International Chamber of Commerce (CCPIT) and 19 chambers of commerce from 18 countries along the Land Sea New Corridor. CUKBDC represent the only G7 within the Alliance
Chongqing will act as the operational and logistical hub of the corridor which spans 13 provincial-level administrative regions, forming a logistics network that integrates railways, highways, and sea routes.
Currently the corridor connects 555 ports in 127 countries and regions including ASEAN member states (e.g., Vietnam, Thailand, Singapore) and RCEP countries (Japan, South Korea, Australia), whilst linking to Europe, Africa and the Middle East via China-Europe freight trains and maritime routes.
The important points for the International Chamber of Commerce Alliance for the New Land-Sea Trade Corridor are :
This initiative represents one of the most significant national strategies, fully leveraging the role of the New International Land-Sea Trade Corridor as a vital link between the Belt and Road Initiative and broader efforts to establish a new model of openness to the world.
The Alliance will contribute to maintaining the stability and efficiency of regional industrial and supply chains, while also exploring high-quality commercial and trade pathways for its member countries. It aims to foster deeper commercial and legal collaboration among members, encouraging mutual growth and integration.
Furthermore, the Alliance will focus on developing distinctive, inclusive, and far-reaching branded economic and trade activities. These efforts will strengthen trade and investment cooperation, advance regional trade liberalization and facilitation, and serve as a model for international business cooperation.
The Western Land-Sea New Corridor is an international trade route jointly developed by China’s western provinces in partnership with ASEAN countries. Utilizing a combination of rail, sea, and road transport, it connects inland regions to global markets through key coastal and border ports such as Guangxi and Yunnan.
Since the launch of the Overall Plan for the Western Land-Sea New Corridor six years ago, the corridor’s reach has expanded significantly—from 166 ports in 71 countries and regions to 523 ports in 124 countries and regions. The cumulative number of train services has surpassed 30,000, and the range of transported goods has grown from just over 80 varieties to more than 1,150.
CUKBDC is the only chamber within the Alliance with a physical presence in Chongqing, whereas most member chambers do not maintain offices in China. We are committed to working closely with Chongqing to play an even more influential role in the development of the Corridor and the wider regional strategy.
